Painting Workshop - Experimental painting work

Painting on top of photographs.

These paintings are experimental pieces based upon the work of Peter Bonde. To develop these works I wish to look more at the sort of colours I am using in relation to each other as well as the colours within the photograph.

These paintings were produced on print outs so I also wish to experiment with the paint upon photographic paper. I'd also be interested to photocopy the paintings I do, to print these out and then add more paint and possibly other materials on the top to see the effect created.

In a few of these pieces I have painted over the faces of the people within the photograph. This shows an element of questioning identity and how people can appear in photographs in comparison to in real life. I think it would be important for me to perhaps looks at artists that do not include the faces of people in their artwork and also maybe to address the issue of how celebrities look in photographs and with things like airbrushing.

After reviewing my work with my tutor and fellow students, this last image is the one that people agreed was a good balance of paint but without taking too much away from the photograph. I will be using this piece as a guide for the other paintings I do to achieve an interesting effect that has a good balance.
