After attempting to use the photocopied images of people's fingerprints, which didn't come out clear enough for my needs, I asked nine more people to do a direct print of their thumb onto paper. I have then scanned these prints in, enhanced them and inverted them ready for use for my etching plate.
I find the effect of the original prints and inverted ones really interesting. It is not only the unique prints that I find intriguing but also the different pressures at which they have been made as well as any other additional marks whether they be scars, wrinkles or paint/ink etc on the surface of the skin.
